Within the REBUILT project, we continue testing and validating innovative solutions for a more sustainable construction sector. Two pilot demonstrations – in Maribor (Slovenia) and Munich (Germany) – showcase how circular economy principles can be effectively applied in real-life conditions.
🇸🇮 Demo Maribor: Acoustic Panels from Natural Materials
In Maribor, we tested bio-composite acoustic panels made from natural materials (hemp and lime-based binders). The aim was to evaluate their impact on indoor environmental quality.
🔹 What was measured:
- reverberation time (RT)
- the effect of installation methods on acoustic performance
🔹 Key result:
- reduction of reverberation by approximately 0.5 seconds (at 500 Hz)
→ improved speech intelligibility and indoor comfort
This pilot confirmed that natural materials can serve as a viable alternative to conventional solutions while contributing to reduced environmental impact.

🇩🇪 Demo Munich: Concrete with 100% Recycled Aggregates
In Munich, the focus was on the use of 100% recycled aggregate concrete (100RAC) in structural applications. The material originated from demolition waste and was reused in real construction scenarios.
🔹 Where it was applied:
- load-bearing piles
- structural slabs
- concrete walls
🔹 What was tested:
- workability of fresh concrete
- pumpability (up to 45 m)
- quality after pumping
- long-term deformation and sustainability indicators
🔹 Key results:
- successful real-life application in structural elements
- no negative impact on fresh concrete properties
- confirmed mechanical and physical performance (strength class C30/37, freeze-thaw resistance, etc.)
This pilot demonstrates that construction and demolition waste can be efficiently transformed into high-quality building materials, significantly reducing the need for virgin resources.

Why is this important?
The construction sector is one of the largest contributors to waste generation and greenhouse gas emissions. The REBUILT project delivers practical solutions that:
- support the circular economy,
- reduce environmental footprint,
- and maintain high performance and quality standards in construction materials.
