DEPLOYTOUR Podcast Launches: Exploring How Data is Transforming the Future of European Tourism

The DEPLOYTOUR project is proud to introduce its official podcast series, Tourism Meets Data, a new platform designed to bring the vision, impact, and real-world relevance of the European Tourism Data Space closer to tourism professionals, policymakers, and stakeholders across Europe.

This podcast series represents an important step in communicating how data can drive innovation, sustainability, and smarter decision-making in tourism. By combining expert insights with real stories from the field, the DEPLOYTOUR podcast translates complex technological concepts into accessible and engaging conversations that highlight the human dimension of digital transformation.

Connecting Data, People, and Places

At its core, DEPLOYTOUR aims to build a trusted and secure European data space for tourism, enabling stakeholders to share and use data more effectively. The podcast plays a crucial role in this mission by showcasing how data sharing can improve collaboration, foster innovation, and support more informed decision-making throughout the tourism ecosystem.

Through each episode, listeners gain insight into how tourism destinations, businesses, and policymakers can benefit from improved access to data. The podcast emphasizes that data is not just a technical resource—it is a strategic asset that can help address real-world challenges such as seasonality, sustainability, overtourism, and the ongoing digital transition of the sector.

Hosted by Josep Pons from Disset, the series features interviews with industry experts, project partners, and local tourism stakeholders. These conversations provide valuable perspectives on how data spaces can empower organisations, improve operational efficiency, and create more resilient and sustainable tourism models.

First Episode: Rethinking Tourism Through Data

The inaugural episode features Dolores Ordoñez, Director of AnySolution and coordinator of the DEPLOYTOUR project. In this opening conversation, she introduces the project’s vision and explains how creating a common, trusted tourism data space can unlock new opportunities for collaboration and innovation.

Dolores highlights the importance of overcoming data fragmentation in tourism and demonstrates how structured, secure, and interoperable data sharing can enhance decision-making at every level—from local destination management organisations to European policymakers. By enabling stakeholders to access reliable, real-time information, the DEPLOYTOUR initiative helps tourism actors respond more effectively to changing market conditions, visitor flows, and sustainability goals.

The episode also provides valuable context on why the European Tourism Data Space is essential for strengthening Europe’s competitiveness and supporting the digital and green transition of the tourism sector.

Turning Complex Innovation into Real-World Stories

One of the key strengths of the DEPLOYTOUR podcast is its focus on storytelling. Rather than presenting purely technical explanations, the series connects innovation with real people and real experiences. It gives voice to diverse stakeholders—from policymakers and technology providers to local entrepreneurs and tourism managers—allowing them to share their perspectives, challenges, and solutions.

By doing so, the podcast builds trust and engagement, demonstrating how data innovation directly impacts tourism destinations, businesses, and communities. It helps listeners understand how data spaces can improve operational efficiency, support sustainable tourism practices, and enable smarter strategic planning.

Importantly, the podcast also serves as a practical resource. Tourism professionals can learn how to leverage data for their own organisations, discover real-world use cases, and gain inspiration for implementing digital solutions in their daily operations.

Supporting the European Vision for Data Spaces

The DEPLOYTOUR podcast aligns with the broader European vision of creating sector-specific data spaces that promote secure, interoperable, and trustworthy data sharing. Tourism is one of the key sectors where improved data collaboration can generate significant economic, environmental, and social benefits.

By promoting understanding and adoption of data spaces, the podcast contributes to building a stronger, more connected tourism ecosystem across Europe. It helps stakeholders recognise the value of collaboration and encourages active participation in the emerging European Tourism Data Space.
